WORK PROCEDURE- 5 STEPS
1．CONTACT

2．FIRST MEETING
A first meeting will be arranged if possible, to discuss the feasibility of project. The content of the work, staffing and schedule will be discussed.
3．CONTRACT
The Budget will be decided and a contract made. If production is short notice, this may be decided after the creative proccess has already started.
4．CREATIVE MEETING
A meeting will be held with the producer, director and art director. The concept for the characters will be decided.
5．BIG10
The Creative process will start. (Refer to BIG 10 above).

ISAO TSUGE - CHARACTER ARTISTIC DIRECTOR
Isao Tsuge started his career as a successful hair stylist, winning the first ever “Japan Hair Dressing Award (JHA)” and then moving into hair and makeup, where he was in much demand for fashion and advertising. At the end of the nineties he got requests for film and theatre and started to reach beyond being just a hair and makeup artist to become what he termed a “Beauty Director” - incorporating design, coordination and management. Tsuge made a name for himself working on films including Shinya Tsukamoto’s Soseiji (Gemini), Hideaki Anno’s Shiki-Jitsu(Ritual), Matthew Barney’s art film Drawing Restraint 9 and Yojiro Takita’s 2008 Academy Award-winning film Okuribito (Departures).
Always pushing boundaries, Tsuge became more and more involved in the overall design and supervision of all visual aspects of the protagonists and called his work “Jinbutsu Design” (Character Artistic Direction). This involves character design, make up and costume direction. He has worked as a Character Artistic Director on Takashi Miike’s 13 Assassins and Yatterman, Katsuhide Motoki’s Kitaro and the Millennium Curse and the award-winning NHK Taiga Drama Ryomaden, which he published a account of his work in the book called “Ryoma Design." His radical creations as well as his constant breaking of conventions have made Isao Tsuge stand out as one of the leading practitioners in Japan.
